Peripheral hearing
Children and Adolescents
In this assessment, the client is required to listen to tones of different frequencies and intensities so that we (the Audiologists) are able to gauge the softest tone the client can hear. In addition, we conduct otoscopic examinations (physical examination of the outer ear, ear canal and eardrum) and a test of the middle ear known as acoustic immittance (or impedance). Finally, we evaluate speech discrimination in quiet conditions at a conversational speech level.
This information provides us with details relating to the anatomical structure and functioning of the ear, particularly the outer, middle and inner ear.
