Hearing loss is often slowly and silently acquired due to, for example:
- Middle ear infection (otitis media)
- Excessive exposure to noisy stimuli
- The ageing process (presbycusis)
In the above examples, hearing acuity usually deteriorates gradually over time. It is often advanced before people recognise and finally accept that they have a problem. They often compensate for this, making it difficult to perceive the gradual loss of their hearing ability in an objective way. That is why it is often carers and/or family members who urge people to have their first hearing test.
If you are concerned about your or a family member or friend’s hearing or auditory processing, please contact us for an appointment. A hearing test is the first step to address hearing loss or auditory processing difficulty.
Remember to protect your ears from unwanted noxious noise!
